Secure My Salary: What's Your Reason?

Redundancy looming? Or maybe it's already happened. It happens to many of us! I have been made redundant twice. The first time I was offered a wonderful job by a new company, just as my employer of 20 years was looking for people to accept voluntary redundancy. I took the voluntary option, and just as I left, the other company withdrew their offer! After 20 years, I was on the outside, wondering what came next.

The second time a company took me on as a contractor, mined all my knowledge in a certain field, and made me redundant with just 30 minutes notice!

Never again! Now I'm my own boss. I work just the hours I want to work, and no-one can take that away from me. If I work hard, I earn more, if I work less hard, I don't earn less ... it's just that my pay rises come more slowly (but my income has gone up 12% a month for the last four months!)

I have no staff, no stock, I work from home with Susan, and I have a wonderful community of colleagues and friends who support me.

And within a very short time my income from this business will equal the pension that I builtup over 20 years. Within 5 years I expect my monthly income to exceed my annual pension!

George in New Forest I was working at my business, and the sun was shining, and it was warm outside, and I was fed up with doing what I was doing, so I went and cut the grass, and then played ball with the dog for a while.

Later I took him for a walk in the New Forest (he loves muddy puddles). I decided to carry on with the business work in the evening, after dark.

This is an exciting way of earning a living. My next goal is to win one of the company minis, which I'll do within the next couple of months. I talk to interesting people, help them to save money, and work with my team, who are all self-employed. This is the least boring job I ever had (and I'm 61!)

Last Wednesday my daughter had the day off, so we went geocaching in the New Forest. I can do these things ... I don't have to ask anyone's permission. If I get bored, I just go and do something else!
